A J Law & Co is law practice that has its offices in the Central Business District of Sydney. We provide traditional and non-traditional legal services to clients in metropolitan Sydney and beyond. Given that we are a small size firm, we have a very “hands on”, personal approach, seeing clients when it suits the clients, during, before and after “business hours”. We are able to travel to you.

We are a generalist legal practice that accepts instructions in all of the major areas of the practice of law. Of-course, we engage specialists in areas where we consider that this is appropriate, keeping your costs down by identifying the issues that clients need the specialist advice and by keeping the specialist “honest” in their charges on their usually much higher charge out rates. Also, we may be better placed to identify the appropriate specialist.

Legal services are now a much broader activity than previously. We pride ourselves on a “wholestic” approach to problem solving. It is for this reason we keep ourselves as generalists rather than being specialised. We consider that this keeps us flexible, to be able to see the “larger picture” and also be able to counsel and suggest resolution of issues rather than sticking to narrow, tunnel-like advices.

An example of this may be seen in how we handled the problem of a disgruntled nanny of the MD of an IT company that was our primary client. The nanny ensconced herself in the company’s reception area, saying that she would not leave until her then unreasonable demands were met. She aimed to embarrass the MD into paying her “over the top” claim for entitlements. The MD “dug his toes in” saying that he would not pay a cent to this “blackmail”. We jumped into a taxi, went to a Court House, obtained an AVO, had the nanny removed but requested her to contact us with a claim worked out by her accountant. When she did so, we recommended to the MD to pay out the reasonable part of her claim, and hence “get on with life”. He did so, and was later grateful once the emotion has died away.
